Anyone who visits the site regularly—yes, I’m aware there’s only eight of you—knows I only review movie trailers and not actual movies, due to my poverty level and because my Stalwart Rocket Launcher of Castigation hasn’t arrived yet. However, yesterday I went to see a screening of Bullets, Blood, and a Fist Full of Cash and have been convinced by a certain red head my life will be in serious jeopardy if I don’t bend the rules this one time. I’ve decided this is reasonable as it’s still technically a [p]review because the movie has not been distributed yet, and as I have no immediate wishes to die.

Filmed in Seattle, Washington, Bullets, Blood, and a Fist Full of Cash, is a straight up action flick which depicts rivalry between eight gangs and the revenge of one man. Written and directed by Sam Akina, the film stars Tom Doty and Jerry Lloyd. The movie has a good dose of tongue-in-cheek, and more than a good dose of…action and…killing. The last movie I can remember seeing which presented itself so unabashedly as an action movie was The Transporter or possibly Bad Boys II—two action movies I actually own. I would have wholeheartedly added this DVD to my action collection if I’d be able to successfully swipe it from the projection booth.

If you watch the trailer for Bullets, Blood, and a Fist Full of Cash you will notice no one dies. This might give you the impression this movie is your run-of-the-mill action movie and would be rated something along the lines of a PG-13. This impression would be wrong. If I had to guess, I would imagine there is one death approximately every three minutes, and that’s only because I had to average it out due to plot line pauses. During action sequences, there is probably one death every ten seconds—more if you count people killed at the same time. If you’re looking for gloriously excessive gun fights, you’ll certainly find them here.

However, the gun fights are not the best part of the action scenes. See that guy covered in blood on the website’s main page? That man’s name is Cash (played by Tom Doty). It is difficult to describe how absolutely, excessively massive this man is. The picture on the main page does not adequately convey his enormity, because there is no one standing next to him. Most likely, this is because anyone who was standing next to him in the picture is now piled in a tower of bodies upon which he is standing. The best part about the action sequences is when Cash runs out of ammunition and proceeds to beat everyone in sight using his fists, his boots, empty guns, kitchen supplies, metal doors, and if necessary, their own dismembered limbs. I found myself cringing after every blow and cheering every time someone had their face or other body part irrevocably maimed.

The plot accomplishes its job quite nicely: getting you from point A to point Kill. There were enough interesting plot twists to keep me curious about what was going to happen next; that is, until Cash bayoneted a gang member with a combat shotgun, and used him as a human shield while emptying the rest of the clip into the remaining thugs on screen, at which point I realized I really didn’t care much about the plot.

Unfortunately for those of you who missed the screening—which includes all my readers aside from my friend Ben who went with me—you’ll have to wait until Bullets, Blood, and a Fist Full of Cash is properly distributed to theaters everywhere. Until that time, be sure to keep it on your list of movies you should see on a night when you have a babysitter for the kids.
